This year for the first time, we proudly participated in the Wiener Töchtertag and were excited to welcome a group of four curious, creative, and motivated minds into our office to give them a hands-on glimpse into the world of app development at youniqx.
Having very few to no female employees is more of the norm than the exception for many companies in the technology sector – including us at youniqx. Hoping for more female applicants suddenly falling from the sky to solve this issue, won’t do it. Instead of just acknowledging the issue we wanted to take action and grasped an opportunity to be part of a local initiative that encourages girls and young women to pursue a career in STEM – the Wiener Töchtertag 2026.
Team work makes the dream work
Throughout the day, the participants worked step by step on creating their own app stepping into the shoes of product owners, ux engineers and mobile developers. Our challenge for the day was to develop an app for an animal shelter that helps create more engagement by showing images of cats and dogs. In order to meet the sharp deadline – delivering a functioning prototype at the end of the day – we emphasized a strong collaboration between teams because that’s how we manage at youniqx showcasing a realistic workday.

In the first part of the workshop, we worked together on the refinement process involving our participants into actively discussing which features would be realistic to implement, how to break ideas down into manageable parts, and how to turn a concept into something buildable.
What would a product be without its users? Together with our ux engineers the participants conducted user research, framed the design challenge and built wireframes using paper components much like assembling Lego.
Clearing up out-dated prejudices about programmers, our developers not only explained what is needed to code and its principles, but also shared what their day-to-day work can look like including teamwork in form of pair-programming, meetings with other teams and going onto scavenger hunts – better known as bug fixing.

So we say THANK YOU
Especially to our hard-working participants for their enthusiasm, creativity and courage to dive into something completely new. Their open-mindedness brought towards us from the start made it such a positive experience for everyone involved. Observing how inspired the girls got by seeing how their ideas turned to life, into a tangible product, made the day especially meaningful for us.
We are also grateful for the organizers of the Wiener Töchtertag 2026 and to provide the chance to support young women on their first steps into tech and to show how creative, collaborative, and exciting app development can be.
We can’t wait to do it again next year

Here’s a little teaser …
