Authentication, identification, authorization.

What is MIA – My Identity App?

MIA combines traditional printed ID documents and electronic identities (eID) into a platform-independent smartphone app embedded in an ID ecosystem.
MIA aims for transparent identification and authentication in the physical and digital world while security, privacy, data protection, usability and user trust are at equilibrium. show more

Who is MIA for?

MIA’s success relies on highly trustworthy data-sources. For this reason, primarily Governments but also private sector institutions
that hold large amounts of high-quality identity data (e.g. banks, health insurances or postal services) are ideally placed to implement a mobile identity infrastructure like MIA. As subsidiary of the 200 year old Austrian State Printing House, we at youniqx Identity have profound know-how in working with identity infrastructures and the implementation of secure identity solutions. show more

MIA principles: real time secure processing.

MIA is an identity management solution available on state of the art technologies. MIA is by default in data minimization mode allowing for selective disclosure of attributes. MIA offers real time data retrieval from already existing reliable databases that hold the citizen’s personal information. In addition MIA is fully ISO 18013-5 compatible and offers to store data securely on the smartphone. The security of MIA is not based on specific hardware solutions but rather is ensured by a secure process.

MIA is protected by various layers of security, with trustworthy data sources. The solution retrieves the relevant personal data only from reliable databases like existing Driver License databases or civil registers. To further improve security, MIA is authenticated by the backend via client certificates, which are stored on the users’ smartphone. The certificate is stored in a secure way by using state of the art security technologies offered by mobile operating systems iOS and Android. All data transfers are secured using Transport Layer Security (TLS 1.2. or higher). MIA is protected against device loss or theft by design: There is no data stored on the smartphone and personal data is never transmitted directly between smartphones, but always retrieved from a trusted data source. MIA puts the user in control of his own personal data. Every data request must be approved by the person to whom the information belongs. show more
MIA can be directly linked with any existing trustworthy public database (e.g. existing Driver License databases or civil registers). Thus there is no need to create additional databases or registers. Furthermore, MIA uses existing official databases to improve security for citizens and prevent identity fraud.
MIA promotes the use of biometrics instead of passwords. The internationally used FIDO protocol improves security by replacing the password with biometric identifiers. So in online use cases the FIDO protocol is used whenever possible for user authentication based on biometrics.

Success Stories.

Smartphone-based eIDs for Liechtenstein

The Principality of Liechtenstein chose MIA – My Identity App as a simple yet secure way to identify citizens online.
As of April 2020 citizens in Liechtenstein can use their smartphones to identify themselves on the internet to request online services without any additional device (no card, no reader, etc.). The successful implementation of this project proved that we are able to deliver complex systems within a period of only a few months. show more
